Ingrédients

  • 1 lb ground beef 80/20 blend for best results
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce optional, for extra flavor
  • 1 onion thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp butter or dairy-free alternative
  • 8 slices rye bread or any bread of choice
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise for spreading on bread
  • 1 tbsp mustard optional, for extra flavor

Instructions

Prepare the Patty Mixture

  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground beef, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and Worcestershire sauce. Mix gently until just combined.
  • Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape into thin patties, about the size of the bread slices.

Caramelize the Onions

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  • Add sliced onions and cook for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until golden and caramelized.

Cook the Patties

  • Heat the same skillet over medium-high heat and add the beef patties.
  • Cook for 3-4 minutes per side until browned and cooked through.
  • Remove from heat and let rest for a minute.

Assemble and Toast the Patty Melt

  • Spread mayonnaise on one side of each bread slice.
  • Place a cooked patty on a slice of bread, top with caramelized onions, and spread mustard if desired.
  • Top with another slice of bread, mayonnaise side facing out.

Grill the Sandwich

  • Melt the remaining butter in the skillet over medium heat.
  • Place the sandwiches in the skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.

Serve

  • Remove from heat, slice in half, and serve immediately with fries or a side salad.
